This was the perfect present for an inquisitive 8 year old. It's well made and robust and really easy to program from Microsoft Makecode for micro:bit, but it also offers the opportunity to move from Scratch like programming to Javascript and Python.

Our ten year old kid easily assembled this, and used his Chromebook to code. We followed their online tutorial to make the robot navigate obstacles. The instructions provide a Github URL to copy/paste into the Microbit project advanced > extensions screen which enables the robot's features. There's also an iPhone app.

I had to solder the wire back on, and I used my own plastic screws and nuts instead of the rivets. But, why should I have to do that?

This robot includes a 18650 LiPo battery, has very good software examples, includes a large printed line-following paper and even an infrared remote. The problem is the plastic rivets that are supposed to hold down the motor clamps and the forward roller do not hold.
